You're going to love Red Stag hunting! New Zealand red deer hunting is a passion for local and international hunters alike. The most-widely spread deer species in New Zealand, red deer (Cervus elaphus) were introduced to the South Island in the late 1800’s. Today, hunters can track the adaptable red stag in New Zealand’s hills, valleys, forests, mānuka scrub, tussock, river bottoms, and more! 

  • An average New Zealand red stag can weigh 400 pounds, carry the largest antlers of any deer in the world relative to their body size, and their mating call “roar” is a sound you’re not likely to forget.

  • We offer high-quality hunting options for our beloved red stag. We access a staggering number of hunting blocks, private ranches, & estates (more than any other outfitter in New Zealand). From record book trophy heads to meat animals (and everything in between), quick hunts to longer adventures – join us in pursuit of New Zealand’s famed red deer for a hunt you’ll remember for the rest of your days!   • NZ red stag hunting is best from February, when the hunting days are still warm and stags are in hard antler, through mid-August when stags begin to drop their antlers. Peak ‘Roar’ (or rut) stag hunting occurs mid-March through the end of April. Red stags will split off from the hinds and may join bachelor groups in May and June to prepare for winter.

  • Hunt a wild red stag (12 points or fewer) or management red stag.

    Includes Hut or station accommodation, Meals and use of firearms/ammo.

    Price: Approx. $2,500 per red stag.

    Additional guide fees apply for field days beyond the first day.

  • Bronze Medal Hunt

    Includes Airport transfers, Lodge accommodation, Trophy preparation for expediting, Meals, and use of firearms. Red stag scoring up to 329 SCI.

    Silver Medal Hunt

    Includes Airport transfers, Lodge accommodation, Trophy preparation for expediting, Meals, and use of firearms. Red stag scoring 330 to 369 SCI.

    Price: Approx. $6,000.

    Gold Medal Hunt

    Includes Lodge accommodation, Airport transfers, Trophy preparation and transfer for expediting, Meals and firearms provided.

    A Gold Medal stag measures 370 to 400 SCI. A Super Gold Medal red stag measures 401 to 450 SCI. An Elite Gold Medal stag scores above 450 SCI and is guaranteed to measure for the World Record Book.

Hunt Himalayan Tahr

The gorgeous mountain ghosts

You'll Never Forget New Zealand Tahr Hunting. Known for their agility, beautiful shaggy manes, and challenging alpine habitat, a New Zealand Himalayan Tahr hunt is rewarding and unforgettable. Join us to chase these 'kings of the mountains' - this is high-country NZ hunting at its finest!

Like other large New Zealand game species, Himalayan tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus) were introduced to the South Island to provide a challenge for hunters. Today, local and international hunters can take to the ‘hills’ in pursuit of one of the world’s premier alpine trophy animals.

  • An average New Zealand tahr can weigh 250 to 300 pounds, bulls can be very assertive, and tahr live and graze at high altitudes in rocky alpine grasslands and sub-alpine shrublands.

  • we offer several quality hunting options for our highly-prized Himalayan tahr. From hard hunts to more comfortable adventures – join us in pursuit of New Zealand’s famed tahr for an alpine challenge that you’ll never forget!   • New Zealand tahr can be hunted year-round! Himalayan tahr hunting is best here from February through November with peak rut hunting occurring May through early July. Bull tahr are in their prized winter coats April through August and can be found in their summer coats in late October through March.

  • Public Land Tahr Hunt

    Price: Approx. $3,500 plus $2,000 per flight hour. We estimate one flight hour per tahr harvested.

    Private Land Tahr Hunt

    Price: Approx. $5,000. No helicopter flight required.

  • Alpine Double: Tahr & Chamois Hunt - 4 Days

    Our most popular alpine package offering luxury 5-star mountain lodge accommodation, gourmet food and wine, helicopter access to the mountain, and all transfers. This package is the ultimate New Zealand Alpine experience and includes extensive mountain scenery and scenic glacier viewpoints.

    A reasonable level of fitness is required for this hunt although helicopter access and retrieval options will allow for a less physically demanding hunt.

Hunt Alpine Chamois

Into the hills for an elusive antelope cousin

Challenge Yourself with New Zealand Chamois Hunting. It would be a mistake to underestimate the compact Chamois! Athletic & equipped with binocular vision - this is one of New Zealand's most challenging hunts! We guarantee shot opportunities on all New Zealand Chamois hunts.

  • Chamois (Rupicapra) arrived as a gift from Austria in 1907. Today, you can find these nimble alpine ‘antelope’ in New Zealand’s rugged Southern Alp foothills and high country. Aside from being a challenging chase – New Zealand chamois carry horns as large as any in the world! Both sexes carry horns – males tend to have heavier sets with longer hooks.

  • Today, chamois are only found in a few places around the world; join us in exploring some of New Zealand’s most inspiring highlands as we spot and stalk a true mountain trophy. Our certified guides guarantee shot opportunities on all chamois hunts.

  • Chamois can be hunted year-round. They sport gorgeous dark colors in winter (late April to August) and tan colored fur in summer (December to March). Peak rut occurs in May & June. By July, chamois bucks begin to congregate in bachelor groups as the weather turns coldest.

  • Public Land Chamois Hunt

    Price: Approx. $2500 plus $2000 per helicopter flight hour. We estimate one flight hour per chamois harvested.

Hunt Fallow Buck

The baddest buck in New Zealand

Spot-and-Stalk Fallow Deer Hunting. Possessing palmate antlers, a range of color phases, and a street-fighting disposition - the mighty Fallow buck is a true New Zealand challenge. New Zealand hunting at its finest!

  • Known for their palmate antlers, intelligence, and notorious mean streak – fallow deer (Dama dama), like all of New Zealand’s large ungulates, were brought over (these guys are from Europe). Additionally, fallow deer are widely considered one of the most beautiful deer species in the world! If you’ve been lured to hunting on the South Island by the siren song of the red stag – and you haven’t considered the gorgeous fallow buck – you might be missing out. Seeing a set of these palmate antlers rise cautiously over the rosehip and hoping for a colorful coat and front shoulder to present themselves…this is New Zealand hunting in its full glory!

  • Fallow buck hunting is good for a lot of the year; the rut is not to be missed: they’ve been known to duel to the death (they’ve even been caught bullying far larger red stags!) and can be heard throughout the hills and valleys as they grunt and croak (like a frog) at one another. Join us for a fallow buck hunt or add one on to any of our other popular hunting packages – these ‘paddlers’ make for quite a challenge and a beautiful New Zealand trophy. Gold Package Hunt

Fallow Buck, Tahr, Chamois, Red Stag, Wallaby, Turkey, Boar, & Goat Hunt

All-inclusive hunting package (‘Gold Level’ hunting & accommodations, transfers, transport, meals, drinks, guided hunting) for one hunter and one non-hunter.

Helicopter access for alpine animals is included. Relax with included scenic lake cruise, jetboat ride, horse trek, glacier landing, and other activity options to fill free time.

Hunt Elk (Wapiti)

Elk are the largest-bodied deer species available in New Zealand and can carry massive antlers ranging from 300 to 550 inches! Wapiti were initially shipped to New Zealand as a gift from U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt and were set free on the SW corner of the South Island in 1905. We access an incredible population of trophy elk!

DATES:

New Zealand elk hunting season stretches from February to August. The elk rut coincides with the red stag rut (mid-March through April).

Hunt Arapawa Ram

New Zealand’s famed wild Arapawa sheep were initially liberated near the top of the South Island as a food supply for seafaring whalers and seal hunters. Today, Arapawa rams are a popular New Zealand hunting trophy with distinctive curling horns, beautiful woolly coats, and they make surprisingly gorgeous shoulder mounts.

Hunt Pacific Goat

Wild goats are plentiful in parts of New Zealand and a trophy goat (30+ inches) is a unique prize. Goats exist in a wide range of colors and are popular with some hunters for their meat. Older billies can be notoriously elusive if they’ve been previously pressured by a hunter.

Hunt Wild Boar

Wild pigs are common in certain parts of the South Island. New Zealand’s wild pigs are commonly black (and are historically referred to as ‘Captain Cookers’ due to their NZ origins), though a range of colors can be found here. Pigs can be hunted with or without dogs and are often prized for their meat. Pigs are often spotted while pursuing other game animals like red stag or fallow deer.

Hunt Wallaby

Wallaby populations have seen significant recent growth in New Zealand and they are considered a pest as they compete with stock for food sources. Their exploding populations are significant given that they can reach a meter in height and weigh up to 25 kg! Wallaby hunting is a truly unique New Zealand hunting adventure and can make a great stand-alone experience or add-on to a big game hunt.

Rabbit and Hare Night Hunting

Like wallabies, rabbits and hares are considered pests in New Zealand due to high population numbers. Join us for an evening of hunting and shooting to practice your aim and quick trigger!

Small Game Hunting
